How can I support BarCampMelbourne?
There are a couple of people taking care of organisational tasks, but there are areas for which we need the help from organisations like yours.
For example, we’d like to be able to offer participants food and drink during the event. We might also need Internet access, if this is not already available at the venue. And we need a venue!
We anticipate atttracting over 100 participants to the next BarCampMelbourne.
What does BarCampMelbourne need?
As far as possible, we encourage sponsors to provide support “in kind” rather than in hard cash. Paying suppliers directly not only makes our lives easier, it also allows you to claim back any GST!
If you can, or know someone who can provide any of the following, please get in touch:
- Venue: One sponsor sought. We need a venue, preferably in the Melbourne CBD, available to around 100 attendees. Ideally the venue will be available for a two day period from start to finish and aparticipants will bring sleeping bags and find some floor space to sleep. The venue is the most visually memorable part of any conference, so why not put your organisation on the map and be the face of this exciting event?
- Food: Twosponsors sought at $600 each. With 100 attendees, we’d like to make sure mouths are fed. A well fed congregation is an alert and productive congregation. Do you want to take credit for the improved productivity of the attendees?
- Drink: One sponsor sought. No BarCamp is the same without a drink sponsor. Often the most productive part of any conference is the evening gathering, where alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages bring the attendees together to speak in a less formal environment and share ideas without fear of having a room full of faces watching their every move. Why not be the sponsor that allows us to make that happen, and be remembered for all eternity for making the BarCamp even more memorable!
Other “things” we’d like
There are a lot of things we can do in order to make the next BarCamp more successful and more useful to all, even those that do not attend:
- Presentations online: if you have video and audio recording equipment that we can use, then all the valuable information obtained from the presentations and discussions can be made available to anyone via this web site.
- Internet access: allow bloggers to report on the event in real time; allow presentations to be made available online shortly after they’re finished; allow attendees to communicate with others in real time via IRC or email; Internet access is an extremely useful service to provide to our attendees. If you would like to provide Internet access, in the form of wireless broadband for example, get in touch now!
- Give-aways: Attendees love gifts, and what better way to promote your latest book, software or service, than by providing them as prizes for us to give away? Alternatively, why not provide a trophy for the most valuable presentation as voted on by the participants?
- T-shirts: No conference is the same without t-shirts, and with your logo firmly implanted on to the front of every participant’s chest, you’ll get even more visibility!
What do you get out of it?
Obviously you’re going to want something pretty special in return for your support. At the very least, we can offer you these benefits:
- Your logo will appear on the main BarCampMelbourne web page until the next BarCamp and the BarCampMelbourne2008 Sponsors page.
- Your company will be mentioned at the start of each day, the closing thanks, and probably a few other times during the event.
- You may advertise your support in any way you like.
- You may offer swag/literature/etc at the event.
- You may provide signage for display during the event.
If you have any other ideas or requests regarding benefits to you, please let me know. We want to make sure you get as much, if not more, out of this deal as we do!
Melbourne’s second BarCamp held in March 2008 was a huge success and this time we’re hoping to break the 100 people mark!
