BarCampMelbourne2008 was a huge success!

I'd like to thank everyone that made BarCampMelbourne2008 what is was. I'd like to thank all the participants that turned up on the day - you were truly fantastic and your level of participation is what made the event so great. We also had some great sponsors who made the thing financially possible.

Having been thinking about little other than BarCampMelbourne2008 for the last few months, I'm going to take a few days off before writing an official summary and thankyou, but I know there are people I missed during the closing. The impromtu room monitors who helped keep the event running smoothly and didn't mind me using them as a virtual prodding stick via IRC, for example!

I'll leave you now with a few quotes from participants, and will try to keep this updated as I hear of more.

A huge thanks again to everyone that made this a success - I had a truly awesome time.

BarCampMelbourne2008 was, simply put, AWESOME!

Good things about the un-conference was that it was free to attend, had a central location, and had free food and beer.

I attended my first BarCamp today and I was really impressed. It was a very full day of interesting presentations by a lot of very smart people...

I was particularly impressed with the support and encouragement attendees gave to speakers. If you’ve never given a public presentation and you’re unsure of yourself today would have been an excellent opportunity.

Don’t miss BarCampMelbourne2009.

I had a blast attending my first BarCamp ... a bunch of like minded people [get] together and interesting conversations will ensue ... I'll be back next year.

What is a BarCamp?

Described as "an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from attendees", anyone is welcome to come along for free. Everyone is asked to participate by giving a presentation or leading a discussion, essentially forcing the sharing of ideas and knowledge.
